Pick AI Ark if you need to find who to contact, with 400M+ people to search and every email verified at export. Pick Hunter.io if you already know the domains or names and need email finding, verification and sequences in one tool. As a Hunter.io alternative, AI Ark suits teams that build lists from scratch.
Key takeaways
Different starting points. AI Ark starts from people and companies: 400M+ people and 70M+ companies, searchable by role, tenure and headcount growth. Hunter.io starts from email addresses, with 150M professional emails indexed from the public web.
Verification at export. AI Ark verifies every email with BounceBan at the moment you export and delivers only addresses that passed, catch-alls included only when confirmed. Hunter.io returns each email with a status, and accept-all results carry a probability score rather than a confirmation.
Where sending happens. AI Ark hands a verified file to the sequencer and CRM you already run and sends nothing itself. Hunter.io bundles finding with sending: sequences, a Chrome extension and native CRM integrations inside its own app.
Cost per valid email. At 5,000 verified emails a month, AI Ark works out at $12.63 per 1,000 on annual billing against $20.80 on Hunter.io's Growth plan. Hunter.io's plan after 2,000 credits a month is 10,000, so mid-sized teams pay for unused headroom.
Credits that carry over. AI Ark rolls unused credits forward up to 2x your monthly plan. Hunter.io's monthly credits reset and do not roll over.
Mobile numbers included. AI Ark has verified mobiles for 100M+ profiles at 5 credits each, so one export can feed email, phone and LinkedIn outreach.

What Teams Say About AI Ark

Since switching to AI Ark, the data quality has been genuinely impressive. Bounce rates stay low, and the 30-day refresh cycle sets it apart from most tools. What is AI Ark? A Hunter.io alternative built for list building
AI Ark is a B2B prospect and company discovery database for sales teams, agencies and recruiters who build their own lists. It covers 400M+ people and 70M+ companies globally, refreshed in full every 30 days, with verified mobile numbers for 100M+ profiles.
It assumes you already own your outreach stack. AI Ark's job is to find the right accounts and people, then hand you a verified file: emails checked with BounceBan at export, ready to load into Smartlead, Instantly, Email Bison or your CRM. You get that file through CSV export, the API, or our MCP server in Claude, Cursor and Windsurf.
The search itself is where AI Ark is distinctive. Company Lookalike takes up to five seed companies and matches on what a business actually does. Net New vs Saved Records hides everyone you have already exported, so you never pay twice. You can filter by headcount growth over six months, one year or two years, by employees per department, by time in role separately from time at the company, and by company HQ separately from where the person sits.
What is Hunter.io?
Hunter.io is an email prospecting platform used by more than 7,000,000 professionals. It is built for founders, marketers and sales teams who want to find professional emails and contact people from one account. The product has six parts: Discover for building company lists with filters, AI search and lookalikes; Domain Search for listing the emails found at a company; Email Finder for finding one person's address from their name; Email Verifier; Sequences for sending, with connected inboxes; and Signals for intent-style buying signals. Around those sit a Chrome extension, a Google Sheets add-on, integrations with HubSpot, Salesforce, Zoho, Pipedrive and Zapier, an API and an MCP server.
Hunter.io's data comes from the public web. Its distinctive asset is its own crawler index: Hunter.io says it crawls 30M pages a day and has indexed 150M professional email addresses from 650M public sources. Each email in Domain Search shows the pages it was found on and when each was last checked, or is marked as inferred. Addresses are checked through its verifier, which connects to the recipient's mail server without sending an email.
Hunter.io publishes self-serve prices for every plan except Enterprise, with monthly and yearly billing views. API-only access is sold separately as a Data Platform plan, with one published example of $6,500 for 1,000 search credits and 200,000 verification credits. It suits teams that know which companies they want and prefer finding, verifying and sending under one login.
Data quality: where validation happens
How AI Ark does it
AI Ark verifies every email in real time with BounceBan at the moment you export. Invalid, unknown and risky addresses never reach your file, and the 0.5 email credit is charged only when a valid address is found. The expected bounce rate on what we deliver is under 1.5%.
Catch-all domains get the same treatment. Each address on a catch-all domain is validated individually, delivered only when it is confirmed, and labeled "Catch-All Valid" in the export so you know exactly what you are sending to.
That strictness is why the find rate is about 70% of exported contacts. The other 30% arrive as profiles without an email, still carrying LinkedIn URL, title and company data for LinkedIn or phone outreach. Because the whole database is refreshed every 30 days, job changes are caught before the email is checked. The fastest way to test these numbers is to export a sample of your own ICP on the free tier, send it from the tool you use today with no verifier in between, and compare bounces at day seven.
How Hunter.io does it
Hunter.io's verifier connects to the recipient's mail server and runs nine checks, from format and MX records to accept-all detection, without sending an email. For accept-all servers, Hunter.io says it runs its own proprietary check with several major email providers. Results come back with one of six statuses: valid, invalid, accept_all, webmail, disposable or unknown. For accept_all results, the score estimates the probability that the address is valid rather than confirming it.
Hunter.io's own headline figure is that it usually observes a bounce rate lower than 1% on recently verified "valid" addresses sent from a well-configured server, and it notes that verification can never prevent every bounce.
Dated reviews are broadly positive. A Trustpilot reviewer in September 2026 estimated Hunter.io was about 95% accurate on their emails. On Capterra, a July 2025 reviewer reported finding some addresses that no longer worked, a November 2024 reviewer said accept-all domains sometimes sent them looking elsewhere, and a July 2025 reviewer found thinner coverage in Belgium, to which Hunter.io replied that coverage depends on each domain's online presence.
The trade-off, stated fairly
Hunter.io gives you a status and leaves the decision to you: send to accept_all addresses, drop them, or check them elsewhere. AI Ark makes the call before export, so the file holds only confirmed addresses.
The two headline figures also measure different things. Hunter.io's under-1% figure covers addresses marked "valid", so accept_all results sit outside it. AI Ark's under-1.5% expectation covers every address in the file, including Catch-All Valid ones. If your sending tool needs a list that is safe to load as it is, verification at export removes a step.
True cost: what a valid lead actually costs
List price is the wrong comparison because the two tools charge for different things. Hunter.io charges for each email it finds. AI Ark charges for the profile, then for a valid email only. The useful number is total annual spend divided by the valid emails you get, at the cheapest plan covering your volume.

Free | 100 | $0 | $0 | 1 |
Starter | 5,000 to 30,000 | $49 to $119 | $470 for 60,000 to $1,142 for 360,000 | Up to 3 |
Builder | 60,000 to 300,000 | $219 to $879 | $2,102 for 720,000 to $8,438 for 3,600,000 | Up to 5 |
Scale (Agency & Enterprise) | 450,000 to 5,000,000 | $1,249 to $9,999 | $11,990 for 5,400,000 to $95,990 for 60,000,000 | 10 |
AI Ark charges 0.5 credits per person profile, 0.5 more only when a valid email is found, 5 per mobile number and 0.1 per company record. Hunter.io charges 1 credit per email found through Email Finder or Domain Search, 1 credit per up to 10 emails in Bulk Domain Search, and 0.5 per verification; Discover searches are free and credits are used when emails are revealed.
Worked scenario: plan ceilings at 5,000 verified emails a month
A team needs 60,000 verified emails a year. On Hunter.io, we count every email found as valid, which applies Hunter.io's own under-1% bounce figure and is the generous reading, since accept_all results sit outside that figure. On AI Ark, a 70% find rate means about 1,214 credits per 1,000 valid emails, so 60,000 valid emails need about 72,857 credits.
Feature | AI Ark | Hunter.io |
Cheapest plan covering the volume (annual) | $758/year, 180,000 credits | Growth, $1,248/year, 120,000 credits |
Cost per 1,000 valid emails (annual) | $12.63 | $20.80 |
Cheapest plan covering the volume (monthly) | $79/month, 15,000 credits ($948/year) | Growth, $149/month ($1,788/year) |
Cost per 1,000 valid emails (monthly) | $15.80 | $29.80 |
The gap comes from Hunter.io's plan steps. Starter covers 2,000 emails a month and the next plan is 10,000, so a team needing 5,000 pays for twice its volume. At the top, Hunter.io's highest published plan is 25,000 credits a month; above that, Enterprise pricing and extra credit packs are not publicly priced. At 20,000 verified emails a month, AI Ark costs $4.76 per 1,000 on its $1,142 annual tier against $10.45 on Hunter.io's $2,508 Scale plan.
The counterpoint, stated honestly
At small volume the result flips. At 2,000 verified emails a month on annual billing, Hunter.io's Starter plan works out at $17.00 per 1,000 against $19.58 on AI Ark's $470 annual tier; on monthly billing both come to $24.50. AI Ark's $470 tier does leave more than 30,000 credits spare for mobiles or growth.
Hunter.io's Bulk Domain Search also stretches a credit further: one credit covers up to 10 emails, which suits teams who want every address at a list of domains. And Hunter.io's price includes sequences, 3 to 20 connected inboxes and unlimited team members.
The hidden line item sits on the other side of the export. Any accept_all address has to be dropped, risked, or run through a second verifier, which adds a per-address fee and a wait before the campaign starts. AI Ark includes catch-all validation in the 0.5 email credit, so the number you see on the AI Ark pricing page is the number you pay for a send-ready list.

You need mobile numbers as well as emails, from 100M+ verified mobile profiles.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. Is AI Ark a good Hunter.io alternative?
AI Ark suits teams that build lists from scratch. It searches 400M+ people and 70M+ companies by role, tenure and company growth, then verifies every email with BounceBan at export. Hunter.io starts from email addresses found on the public web and adds sequences and a Chrome extension. If you already own a sequencer, a database that finds the right people first and hands over only valid emails is the closer fit.
2. How much does Hunter.io cost compared with AI Ark?
Hunter.io starts at $49 a month for 2,000 credits, or $408 a year for 24,000. AI Ark starts at $49 a month for 5,000 credits, or $470 a year for 60,000. At 5,000 verified emails a month on annual billing, AI Ark works out at $12.63 per 1,000 valid emails against $20.80 on Hunter.io's $1,248 Growth plan, because Hunter.io's plan after 2,000 credits is 10,000.
3. Do I pay for emails that turn out to be invalid?
With AI Ark, no. Every email is verified with BounceBan at export, and the 0.5 email credit is charged only when a valid address is found. Profiles without a valid email cost 0.5 credits and still include title, company and LinkedIn URL. Hunter.io charges 1 credit per email found and none when nothing is found. AI Ark's file holds valid addresses only, so you are not paying for addresses you then have to clean out.
4. How do AI Ark and Hunter.io handle catch-all emails?
AI Ark validates each catch-all address individually with BounceBan and delivers it only when confirmed, labeled Catch-All Valid. Hunter.io returns these as accept_all with a score estimating the probability the address is valid, and leaves the decision to send with you. If your sequences target companies with catch-all mail servers, AI Ark removes the guesswork before the file reaches your sending tool.
5. How accurate is Hunter.io's email data?
Hunter.io says it usually sees a bounce rate under 1% on recently verified "valid" addresses; accept-all results sit outside that figure and carry a score, not a confirmation. AI Ark delivers only addresses that passed BounceBan verification at export, catch-alls included only when confirmed, with a bounce rate under 1.5% expected across the whole file. The fair test is one segment from both, sent from the same tool with no verifier in between, with bounces compared at day seven.
6. Can I get mobile numbers from AI Ark or Hunter.io?
AI Ark has verified mobile numbers for more than 100M profiles, at 5 credits each, and you are charged only when you request mobiles. Hunter.io's plans do not list phone numbers. If your outreach mixes email, calls and LinkedIn, one AI Ark export can carry all three: a verified email, a mobile number and the person's LinkedIn URL.
7. Do unused credits roll over?
On AI Ark, yes: unused credits roll over up to 2x your monthly plan, so a 30,000-credit plan can hold up to 60,000. Hunter.io's monthly credits reset and do not roll over, though yearly plans release all credits upfront. Rollover matters for teams whose volume changes month to month, because a quiet month on AI Ark is not lost spend.
8. Can I try both before deciding?
Yes. AI Ark's free tier gives 100 credits a month with no card, and Hunter.io's Free plan gives 50 credits a month. Run the same ICP in both, export a sample, and compare who comes back and how many addresses are confirmed. With AI Ark, every email in that sample is already verified, so the send test is quick.
